About Indore: Planned and built by the brave Holkar queen Rani Ahilyabai, Indore lies to the extreme west of Madhya Pradesh on the banks of the rivers Saraswati and Khan. These rivers unite at the centre of the city. This city has derived its name from the 18th century Indreshwar temple, which is a famous tourist spot. Malhar Rao Holkar's soldierly qualities brought him to the forefront under the Peshwa and he received the territories comprising the Indore region as a gift. He was succeeded by his grandson. After his death, his mother, Maharani Devi Ahilyabai ascended the throne.
