About Gwalior: Gwalior is known for its grand hill-top fort, containing elaborate palaces, water tanks and temples. It was founded by the Rajput prince Suraj Sen in the 900's. The oldest buildings are a pair of elaborately carved Hindu temples, and a collection of giant Jain figurines sculpted out of the hillside from the 600's onward. Gwalior's excellent archaeological museum displays statues and manuscripts founded in the local areas. Tales of chivalry and valor are part of its colourful history.
