AmravatiAbout Amravati: Near the bank of river Krishna, lies Amravati, which earlier was a great Buddhist centre. This erstwhile capital of the Satvahanas houses a stupa ,built by Ashoka's missionary around 200 B.C. The stupa adorned with a marble surfaced dome which is richly carved and equally intricately carved pillars, attracts numerous archaeologists and pilgrims. The grand carvings depicting the scenes of everyday life of Buddha, chaityas, viharas, murals and panels are the surviving remnants of the Buddhist influence. Amravati also houses a temple, dedicated to Lord Amarewara.
